Why is it important?

Most of us know what it feels like to be in a state of harmony and flow, where our hearts and minds are working together. However, oftentimes, this experience of synergy happens by chance, rather than by design or intention. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to produce this flow on demand? IntelliSense Mindfulness Kit will help you achieve this state of mindfulness through a few quick steps that are intentionally designed to be simple. When you achieve nervous system balance with heart rate variability (HRV) training, you gain control over your stress response, thereby resulting in more effective performance, optimal cognitive performance, and a greater calm in life. Additional effects include improved mood as well as a much greater sense of well-being.

How does it work?

The concept is simple. IntelliSense monitors your body's autonomic nervous system (ANS) and measures your heart rate variability (HRV), which is a quick, easy, and totally non-invasive measure of readiness and fatigue. The included heart rate monitor detects your pulse electronically and sends the data to the IntelliSense HRV app, where you can watch live how your breathing rate and thought pattern affect your HRV. Based on this, some very simple breathing techniques are then given to you to help you balance your nervous system function, while being measured real time. The visual feedback through the Mindfulness Kit 3D headset allows you to relax and helps you enforce positive thoughts as you watch the stress melt away.

HRV? ANS?

Heart rate variability (HRV) is tightly related to the workings of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). The ANS is part of the peripheral nervous system and acts as a control system, influencing the function of internal organs and helping maintain balance in the body. In most situations, we are unaware of the workings of the ANS because it functions in an involuntary, reflexive manner. Most of these bodily functions, such as digestion, perspiration, and dilation of the pupils, are generally performed without conscious control.

However, some of these activities also have a conscious element of control, such as breathing. Breathing is the only bodily function that is both involuntary (i.e. self-regulated) and voluntary (i.e. through conscious control). All it takes is a bit of training, and you can also have control over your heart rate. Therefore, breathing exercises are regarded as extremely important and useful in many religious, spiritual, martial art traditions, and modern medical and relaxation techniques.

Know your HRV

Simply put, heart rate variability (HRV) refers to the beat-to-beat alterations in heart rate or pulse. Most people think the heart is like a metronome, and beats vary evenly from one beat to the next. But the reality is that how your heart beats depends on how much stress and fatigue you're under. When you're under a lot of mental stress or you're not sleeping well, you see a very specific pattern in the heart rate as opposed to when you're well rested. A higher HRV suggests a relaxed, low-stress physiological milieu, while a lower HRV indicates a need for recovery, rest, and sleep. IntelliSense uses virtual reality (VR) environment to help you reach a heart-brain mindfulness state through heart-coherent breathing techniques.

Whats in it?

The kit comes with a VR headset, the IntelliSense app, and a heart rate monitor (with the option of choosing between a chest strap and an ear clip hear rate sensor).
