Use the utility software in the CD disk “SearchMCS.exe”. Click “Search”. Double click the high-lighted device name will launch the browser and the device control panel log-in page will pop up. (Please refer the previous page) If you click “Setup” Enter the default password “admin” or the password designated by previous setup to enter the utility. Disk mode selection
Single Disk Volume: Each drive will be formatted individually. (1 drive only)
Linear Mode: The 2 drives capacities are added to form a large single volume (need at least 2 drives)
RAID0 Mode: Striping mode, the data are spread evenly across two drives. This mode yields the best system performance. The usable capacity will be the capacity of “the smaller drive of the two” times 2. To avoid wasting storage space, two identical drives are recommended. (need 2 or 4 drives)
RAID1 Mode: Mirror mode, data are duplicated in each drive. This mode provides data protection in case one drive failed, no data are lost. The usable capacity is the capacity of smaller drive of the two. To avoid wasting storage space, two identical drives are recommended. (need at least 2 drives)

The control panel gives you a familiar interface to work with. By clicking the “Home” icon will let you to logout, Power-off or Reboot the system. “Single click” on the icon can execute the designate function. Offer quick setup so user can get the system up and running in just a matter of minutes. For users with DHCP server turned on in the router (which is most of the cases), the DHCP box can be checked and select “Obtain DNS server address automatically”. In this case, each time when the system boots, an IP address is assigned to the system depending on the IP availability. For some users who prefer fixed IP address, just type in the IP address for this machine (make sure the IP address does not conflict with other devices in the same network system). The DNS server can be set “Automatically” or usually type in the router IP address. If there is additional drive needs to be formatted, please click on “Disk & Volume” tab.

System Administration
This page shows the System Administration status, the Server Name can be changed for easy access in the future. By typing \\MCS4 you will be able to access the data. The user interface Server Port setting is default to 80 which is the default port for browsers. If MCS4 needs to be accessed from the internet and the 80 port is occupied by another http web server. This port can be changed to any other port number. 8080 is recommended if you need to so.

Access Rights Management
Users Management
This page allows administrator to add/delete/manage users. “User Home” is a private folder for each individual user; the folder name is the same as the user name. If no “User Home” is created, that specific user can only access system public folder or shared folders.

Group Management
Group is a class of users with the same access right. The purpose of creating group is to simplify users’ management. First to create group “dragon” for example. Then add/delete user(s) into the group.

Shared Folder Management
Create folders so multiple can access it to share data. This page allows user to specify the share name and shared path. Assign users/groups to the shared folder and specify the access rights to that folder. Just click “Save” to make it effective.

Network Services
Samba – for Windows/Mac OS access
FTP Service – ftp server enable/disable and port address
SSH Service – for secured remote access, enable/disable and port address
NFS Server – for Linux/Unix access, enable/disable
BT (BitTorrent) - Peer-to-peer download service, specify the download file location, enable/disable and port address Click on “Go To Transmission Web Interface”, user can add seeds to the server via this web interface.
This is a package which turns the server’s samba access into http based access so users can access the device with any browser system over the internet. Click “Go to Ajaxplorer” takes you to the web interface. The users and data are synchronized with samba, so users can have the same experience using Windows Explorer to move data around. Only this is http based.

Syncbox is an advanced private cloud server software, it gives users the same functionality of “Dropbox”, “iCloud” and “Google Drive” to synchronize and share data among different devices and friends. The software may come with the system on a CD disk or downloaded from the support site. Just browse to the file and click execute. The installation only takes less than 3 minutes. Click on “Go to Syncbox” to start the fun experience. If you plan to access the software from the cloud, make sure the 8888, 8886 and 8884 ports are forwarded to this device’s IP address.

The NOTIFY_INTERVAL is the time in seconds to scan the media folder to acquire the play list. Too short of period may cause system to check too often and reduce the system performance. The protocol used for this service is uPnP AV.

iTune Server
This server is also capable of streaming media files to Apple’s iTune software on a Windows or Mac OS system. Just select Enable and the designated folder and put media files in the folder, iTune will find it automatically.

External Device
This page shows USB devices attached to the system. Only mass-storage and printer class devices are shown here. Currently, multi-functional scanner/fax/copier/printer are not supported. The tcp port is 9100 in case you would like to access the printer from the cloud.
