Yes. An irregular heartbeat, including one caused by atrial fibrillation, will not interfere with ECP if the heart rate is controlled and no faster than 100 beats per minute
Yes. If you have hypertension that is properly managed, you may undergo ECP without difficulty. Usually, patients with hypertension find that their blood pressure improves as they proceed with ECP. If your hypertension is uncontrolled, you should visit your GP first.
If the lower body cuffs are not adjusted properly or you have very sensitive or fragile skin, tenderness or bruising may occur. Extra padding can be arranged and the pressure setting can be adjusted to personal comfort levels.
Pregnant women, those with a severe aneurysm (thinned & bulging vessel walls) in their aorta requiring surgical repair, and patients with active blood clots in their legs.
A prescribed course of treatment is assessed depending on a combination of health status and lifestyle. The general rule, however, is that longer, more frequent therapy sessions will deliver proportionately better and longer-lasting systemic health gains. Typically, 35 one-hour sessions are prescribed.

ECP Therapy is a relaxing experience and 100% pain free. Our trained Operator will carefully increase the air pressure of the cuffs to a level of comfort to suit you. It feels like a firm massage with squeezing of the legs at regular intervals. The intensity of the pressure is adjustable to ensure a comfortable and effective treatment. Most people fall asleep during the treatment!
The increased blood flow during ECP treatment naturally widens the arteries throughout the body. This makes your cardiovascular system stronger and more efficient.
- Strengthens oxygen and nutrient supply to every cell in the body
- Gives new pathways to the heart (perfusion) and microvascular system
- Decreases heart oxygen demand and workload
- Helps detoxify – increased blood flow, increased removal of toxins especially to the liver and kidney
- Oxygenates muscles
ECP Therapy enhances blood flow to every cell in the body, including organs such as the brain, heart, kidneys, liver and skin. With improved blood circulation, this increases delivery of oxygen and nutrients and removal of carbon dioxide and waste products. Clinical evidence also indicates that ECP promotes vascular health (fitness of the arteries) and reduces inflammation, hence reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and promoting general wellness.
Once comfortable on the therapy bed, our trained Operator will wrap inflatable cuffs (similar to blood pressure cuffs) around the calves, thighs and hips. ECG sensors are placed on the chest to detect the heartbeat.
During treatment, the cuffs inflate and deflate in time with each heartbeat. Inflation happens sequentially from the calves up to the hips. The inflation of the cuffs squeezes blood from the lower legs up toward the heart, so improving blood flow in and around the heart. The rhythmic pulsing of the cuffs is firm, yet comfortable – like a leg massage.
Better circulation equates with better heart health - good circulation is vital to good health. It’s how the blood delivers the oxygen, nutrients, antibodies and other materials that cells need to support, repair and protect the body. It also takes away waste, preventing the build-up of harmful substances over time.
Enhancing the efficiency of the heart and blood vessels through improved blood circulation can improve the quality of life and reduce the potential risk of serious health problems. The ECP process naturally boosts oxygenated blood and nutrients travel to and from the heart muscle and throughout all the arteries and smaller capillaries through the body.
ECP Therapy gives everyone the opportunity to enhance their blood circulation through the introduction of ECP (external counterpulsation) technology. Widely regarded as an effective method to increase blood flow, ECP Therapy can aid in improving quality of life, cardiovascular efficiency and sports recovery. ECP is a medically founded treatment that is non-invasive, pain free and with no significant side effects.
A lot has been invested heavily in the re-engineering of the traditional ECP device with a particular focus on reassessing materials and mechanical functionality. This has resulted in:
- A lighter, mobile device that can be moved easily
- Less heat emission of the pump mechanism, preventing overheating and consequent breakdowns
- Cuff redesign for a smoother treatment
- Less noise – allowing for a more relaxing treatment experience
For most people, an ECG must be performed by a qualified health professional to ensure regular heart function. For people with chronic heart problems, the treatment should be given only after a Cardiologist or Specialist has reviewed the patient medical records and carried out further tests.
The good news is that there are NO hidden costs. Disposable costs related to treatment are low.
