Pen Scanner FAQ

The device is not turning ON?
- Make sure to fully charge the device and switch it on

How can I charge the device?
- The device can be charge with a USB adaptor with 5V output up to 2A. Or you may also use any computer's USB port for charging

How can I transfer files from Pen Scanner to Smartphone/Tablet?
- If you have an OTG cable or your Smartphone/Tablet supports OTG then you can connect the Pen Scanner directly. Otherwise, you have to connect the Pen Scanner to a computer before sharing the files in any means of connectivity

Can I take a photo while recording a video or voice?
- No, the device works one mode at a time

When the storage is full, will it erase the earlier saved file and replace it with the new one?
- No, it will not function once the storage is full so better ensure that the device has enough space before using

SCANNING

1. Set the ON/OFF dial to [ON].

2. Press [MODE] button to use the capture-mode (Blue LED).

3. Execute a half Press on the [shutter] button to aim the object with the Red laser frame.

 Note: Staring at the laser may hurt your eyes.  Do not point the laser at people or animals.

4. Keep holding the [shutter] button halfway until the auto-focus will be complete.   Orange Led will stop blinking and beeping will stop when the auto-focus is complete.

5. Execute a full Press to the [shutter] button to scan the image. Release the [shutter] button after the 'beep' sound.

 

VIDEO TAKING

1. Set the ON/OFF dial to [ON].

2. Press [MODE] button to enter the video-mode (Green LED).

3. Press the [shutter] button once to start video recording. The green Led will blink to indicate that the video message is recording.

4. Press the [shutter] button again to end the video recording.  The green Led will stop blinking and a beep sound will indicate that the video recording has been stopped.

 

VOICE MEMO

1. Set the ON/OFF dial to [ON].

2. Press [MODE] button to enter the voice-mode (Orange LED).

3. Press the [shutter] button once to record the voice message. The orange Led will be blinking to indicate that the vocal message is being recording.

4. Press the [shutter] button again to end the vocal-memo recording.  The orange Led will stop blinking and a beep sound will indicate that the vocal memo has been recorded.

 

VIEWING/LISTENING RECORDED FILES

1.Turn the upper part of the pen counter clockwise until unit separates.

2. Connect the USB flash to the computer/laptop.

3. “NOTEMARK:\ ” will appear on the computer as a removable disk.

4. Click into the sub-folder “\DCIM” to view the captured files.

 

With the iPad Camera Connection Kit (not included), you can import files from  PEN SCANNER to iPad directly.

1. Turn on & unlock iPad.

2. Insert iPad Camera USB Connection Kit into the iPad dock connector port.

3. Make sure the pen is powered on. (Blue LED)

4. Press & Hold the [MODE] button

5. Connect NOTEMARK's USB flash to the USB port on the iPad USB Camera Connector.

6. The iPad application opens automatically and displays the files that are available for importing, then release [MODE] button.

 

 

Usable memory for storage:

Minimum consumer-usable memory is approx.

1.8GB. Part of the capacity is reserved

for product functionality not for data storage.

1Gigabyte (GB) = 1 billion bytes.

*Merlin Pen Scanner images :  Can hold up to 1000 image files with built-in memory.

**Voice-memo : Can hold up to 2000 vocal-memo sound files. Based on 1 minute for each individual vocal-memo.

Total time for all memos is approximately 30 hours based on 1 minute voice-memo.

When orange, blue & green LED will blink simultaneously, it indicates that the built-in memory is full and that no additional file can be saved.

You must download the NOTEMARK's memory bank or delete some files for continuous use.

SETTING DATE & TIME

You can update the Date & Time setting with your, PC (Windows) for NOTEMARK by clicking the

“Sync-Time. bat ” file located on root-directory of NOTEMARK.

Alternatively, you can change the setting manually:

1. Create a new .txt file using 'Note Pad on Windows' or 'Text Edit on a Mac'.

2. Type the following on two separate lines, substituting the current date and time on lines one and two

3. Save the text file as date.txt and place in the root directory of the NOTEMARK drive. The date & time setting on NOTEMARK will automatically change.

REPLACING THE INK CARTRIDGE

1. Turn the lower part of the Merlin Pen Scanner counter-clockwise until unit separates.

2. Use a head screwdriver and unscrew the top of the ink cartridge.

3. Replace with a new ink cartridge and screw into the pen tip.

Getting Started

  1. Set the mode dial to [ON].

A beep sound can be heard in 4 sec. indicating it is ready for use.

Scanning Image or Note Making

  1. Set the mode dial to [ON].
  2. Press shutter button down halfway to aim the object with laser frame.
  3. Keep holding the shutter halfway until auto-focusing completed. Orange LED will stop flashing and beeping will stop when auto-focusing completed.
  4. Press the shutter fully down (another halfway) to record the image. Release the shutter when a ‘beep’ sound is stopped.

Note:

    • To avoid blurred image, keep holding the Pen stably during step 3 & step 4 above.
    • The illuminating LED flashes automatically only in low light condition

Voice Memo

  1. Set the mode dial to [ON].
  2. Press the voice button once to record the voice message. The orange LED turns on indicating that the voice message is being recorded.
  3. Press the voice button again to finish voice-memo recording. The orange LED will turn off and a beep will be heard when voice-memo recording completed.

Sleep Mode

Your Pen Scanner will go to sleep by itself after 1 minute if you are not using it. By pressing shutter button, the pen can be waken up from sleep mode in few seconds.

Viewing captured files

  1. Turn the upper part of the pen counter clockwise until unit separates.
  2. Connect the USB jack to computer, then
  3. “NOTEMARK:\” will appear on the computer as a removable disk.
  4. Click into sub-folder “\DCIM” to view the captured files.

 

Low Battery

If Pen Scanner is extremely low on power, the blue & orange will blinks alternately, and will keep beeping in every 5 sec.

In this case, you need to turn off the pen, and connect it to a computer for charging the battery.

Charging Battery

  1. Connect USB jack to the computer’s USB port.
  2. Blinking orange LED indicates charging. When the battery is fully charged. The orange blinking LED will change to Blue LED staying on.
  3. Recharging a discharge battery takes about 2 hours.

Reset

In rare case, if the Pen scanner hangs up, it can be reset by pressing [RESET] (that is near to USB Plug) with a paper clip or similar item to resume operation.

Storage Capacity

Usable memory for storage:

1000 NoteMark image files or 1000 voice-memo sound files

Total Storage: 1.98 GB

Voice-memo: total 1000 voice-memo sound files is approximation based on 1 – minute for each individual voice-memo.

Accumulated time for all voice memos is approximately 15-hours based on 1-minute per each voice-memo.

No space available in Memory

When both orange & blue turns on simultaneously, this condition indicates that the Pen scanner’s memory bank is full, and new image/voice file cannot be saved.

You must download the Pen scanner’s memory bank or erase some files to free more memory for continuous use.

System Requirements

Mac or PC with USB2.0, Mac OSX, Windows 7, Vista, XP or later, Evernote Account.

Setting the date & time

You can update the Date & time setting with your PC(Windows) for Pen Scanner by clicking the “Sync-Time.bat” file located on root-directory of Pen Scanner.

Alternatively, you can change the setting manually:

Evernote Software

Install Evernote application for windows or mac, by connecting the Pen scanner device to PC, it shows drive with some files, open evernote website shortcut to download Evernote software for your PC, Install it.

After installing Ever note desktop program. Open the program, and create account for you or Login if already have an account in evernote.

You can import selected file to Evernote, Simply right-click the file and choose “Send to”-> Evernote(Windows) ,or “Open with” -> Evernote(Mac).

Also you import files from the program, go to Tools -> import files-> select the root directory of pen scanner, and Select sync.

Then it will automatically store scanned files to Evernote Cloud, any time or anywhere you can access these files from Evernote Application.
